Holiday Trees
Trees and the holidays go together like cocoa and hot. Make these free-standing evergreens in a snap with the covers of the catalogs that have been filling your mailbox all month. The heavier cover paper is ideal for these noble trees.
Handsome on their own, as a little forest, or scattered alongside Holiday Houses they have a colorful Nordic simplicity that’s holiday-perfect.
Made with a catalog cover; one cover makes four trees
Needs just scissors and a stapler
Super quick to make
Steps At a Glance:
Ready? Here’s how:
1
You’ll need:
a catalog
scissors
a stapler
2
Remove one half of the cover from the catalog. Sometimes they tear in half at the staples.
Cut the cover in half widthwise.
3
Take one half and lay it going up and own in front of you. Fold it into thirds like a letter.
Fold the folded stack in half to make a fold line. This marks the center.
4
Staple in the fold line in two or three places from top to bottom.
5
Cut the two sides to make a cone shape.
Snip 3 or 4 notches along each side to make the branches.
Cut a shallow V at the bottom to help the tree stand.
6
Separate and space out the six sides of your tree.
That’s it! Find a home for your new tree.
And try this:
Big Trees
You make big trees exactly like regular trees, except you’ll use one whole half-cover.
These look great with smaller trees, and of course with Holiday Houses.
