Steps At a Glance:
Ready? Here’s how:
1
You’ll need:
a circular cheese wedge box (like Laughing Cow)
some tissue paper
pointy scissors
a pin
(optional) a small piece of twine
2
You’ll be cutting out the centers of the top and the bottom half of the box.
Start by making a hole with the pin.
3
Get the tip of the scissors into the starter hole. Cut out from there almost to the raised border around the edge. Using the raised border as a guide continue cutting all around.
Tip: It’s easier to cut from the outside of the box.
Do the same with the other half of the box.
4
Cut out a square of tissue paper an inch or two bigger than the box all around.
5
Put the square of tissue over the bottom of the box - that’s the half that has the higher sides.
Place the top of the box over, and gently fit the top over the bottom with the tissue in between.
6
Take the top off again and lift up the tissue paper. You’ll see where the box top pressed down about 1/4” of tissue paper all around the circle. Trim the tissue paper that extends beyond that.
Place the trimmed circle of tissue back on the bottom of the box.
Pop the top of the box back on, and your new Sun Dot is ready to go into the nearest window!
You can switch out the colored tissue any time.

Questions
What if I only have white tissue paper? Can I still make a Sun Dot?
Yes! Try making confetti dots on the tissue paper (before putting it inside the Dot). Use all different colors of marker and just dot away. Then assemble your Sun Dot using your one-of-a-kind paper. It will be beautiful.
and try this:
Hanging Loop
Most of these round boxes have a pair of holes punched in the sides. If yours does, you can easily add a hanging loop.
Take about a 5” piece of twine, fold in half, and knot the ends to make a loop. Threat the top of the loop through one of the holes, from the inside of the box.
If the loop pulls out, make a bigger knot and try again.
Multi Color Dots
Take any two colors of tissue paper. Overlap the edges and tape together.
Tip: Use a few small pieces of tape rather than one long one - you’ll get less wrinkling.
Cut your tissue paper square out of this joined sheet of tissue. Continue like for a regular Sun Dot. Place the tissue with the taped side down so it doesn’t show.
Once you try this with two colors you can try using three or four. The overlapped area makes its own color as well. Put the seam off to one side or in the middle, whatever looks good to you.
