Here’s my studio (on a very good day!). It’s compact but has plenty of storage and workspace, and maybe you’ll find an idea that would work for your creative space. Let’s take a look around before it gets messy again.
On the left is a table I use for sewing, and on the right is a larger (39”x 72”) standing-height work surface. I use this one for paper crafts and artwork, and it’s great for cutting out fabric.
Bookcase with all my art, design, and sewing books in one place. The smaller unit (Ivar from Ikea) has sewing patterns and fabric folded in boxes. I have my easel and photography tripod hanging from hooks on the side.
This old bookshelf was the right height to hold up the other end of the worktable.
One of my photography lights lives against the wall, plugged in, so it’s ready to use. You can see a tiny bit of the second one, tucked at the other end of the worktable.
This Ivar shelving is the best thing ever. I keep my easel and camera tripod hooked onto the side when not in use.
Under the table is my answer to a flat file. It’s a boltless steel shelf unit from the hardware store, assembled as two shorter units and placed front to back. The upper shelves are aligned so they’re double-deep, perfect for paper. The lowest shelf is a single (I’m only using the middle shelf for large paper storage right now).
That’s another, wider Ivar unit alongside with boxes for all my different projects.
On the table is my foamcore photography backdrop, and on the wall is a little Ikea shelf for tape, etc. so the surface can stay clear (I wish!).
