I also designed Right Now Crafts to be the opposite of shopping: beautiful, fun things you can’t buy in stores. Things you will like having in your home or playing with, but that you can only have by making them yourself. Like a finger-puppet theater you can design to go with your show. A Halloween house that lights up. A recycled indoor-outdoor party banner. A pretend cuckoo clock.
With Right Now Crafts one of my objectives was to create a way to make things that had zero learning curve so people with no crafting experience could try it out. Because for me this is one of the value lessons of crafting with kids - showing them that not only can you make things instead of buying them, but that sometimes the things you make are way, way better. And even that making it yourself is the only way to have some things. Knowing you can make things is power, and choice, and freedom.
Also, it’s a lot of fun.
